DO I NEED TO TAKE MALARIA TABLETS WHEN VISITING SOUTH AFRICA?

The Garden Route is a completely malaria-free zone. However, the Kruger National Park, the Lowveld of Mpumalanga and Limpopo, and the northern part of KwaZulu-Natal pose a malaria risk during the summer months. Speak to your doctor about the most suitable malaria precaution medicine, and avoid taking these drugs while pregnant.

CAN I USE MY CREDIT CARD OR DO I ALWAYS NEED TO CARRY CASH?

Most of the places we visit do accept visa and mastercard credit cards. Most of our tours also include entrance fees, but you might wish to carry some cash for convenience.

HOW DOES PHONING TO SOUTH AFRICA FROM ABROAD WORK?

Dialling into South Africa requires the “27” country code, leaving out the zero of the South African number. For example, if the South African number is “012 345 6789” and you are dialling from abroad, you will dial “+27 12 345 6789”, where the “+” is substituted by your country’s dial-out code.

HOW DOES PHONING ABROAD FROM SOUTH AFRICA WORK?

South Africa’s dial-out code is “00”. If you’re phoning the international number “012 345 6789” from South Africa, you will dial “00 ++ 12 345 6789”, where the “++” is substituted by that dial-in code for the country you are dialling to.

HOW DO THE PUBLIC PHONES WORK?

There are public phones at all major tourist sites across South Africa. Coin-operated phones are blue, while card phones are green. They are reliable and affordable.
